Matt went into his profession largely to help others who have experienced marginalization because of their identities. With Carmen & Stella, he wanted to create a book that increased representation for people of all ages to see themselves reflected in a genre where there is a need for more diversity and inclusion. He also created this book to teach children and adults the power and bravery of sharing feelings.

REVIEWS
“Love love love the message of this book! Growing up my sister and I never came across anything like this... Maybe if we had it would've made life a lot easier. I read it to my 3 year old daughter and she was fascinated by the story and asked lots of questions. It's important to me that my two daughters know there are many paths they can walk in life along with many people they can choose to love. We are all about making sure our daughters know they don't have to be pretty princesses. But if they want to be, that's ok too! Would highly recommend adding this gorgeously illustrated book to your library!”
—Amy W.“My toddler loves this book, and frequently requests it as her bedtime story. The plot is very sweet and teaches kids about the importance of listening to and communicating their emotions. It’s an empowering read. Highly highly recommend!”
—Kate Arthur“This is an awesome children's book that takes the typical princess story and updates it to include a queer, multicultural, feminist narrative. It has such a lovely message of acceptance and empowerment.”
—Michelle Murray“My 3 year old’s new favorite book! He asks to read it over and over again. The illustrations are beautiful and the story keeps his attention (which is hard to do!). Definitely recommend!”
